Neiwan Project (Completed)
The TRA Hsinchu Neiwan Branch Line Improvement Project is a major railway transportation network for the HSR Hsinchu Station, Hsinchu City, and the Hsinchu Science Park. It uses the current TRA Hsinchu Neiwan railway branch line, and extends from the TRA Hsinchu Station to the Zhuzhong Station bifurcation extending north to Liujia Station where connects to the HSR Hsinchu Station, acting as a railway transportation linking system for the HSR Hsinchu Station. The length is 11.1 km. The project was designed with elevated and electrified railway lines, including 5 stations (North Hsinchu, Qianjia, Xinzhuang, Zhuzhong, and Liujia), and is scheduled for completion by December, 2013.

Project constructions include:
1. Hsinchu-Zhuzhong Segment: 3.1 km of improvements on the current route; 5 km on the newly constructed elevated railway.
2. Zhuzhong—Liujia Segment: 3.2 km of improvements on the newly-constructed elevated railway.
3. Zhuzhong—Neiwan Segment: 20 km of improvements on the current route.
4. New elevated stations (Qianjia, Xinzhuang, Zhuzhong, and Liujia), and a transformer substation.
5. Procured 12 commuter EMUs.

Anticipated benefits of completed project:
1. To encourage people to use the railway instead of other forms of transportation, reduce the number of vehicles on the road, improve air quality and decrease noise, promote traffic safety and urban development.
2. To use the highly-effective railway transportation system to reduce travel time and the costs of other types of transportation.
3. To remove 8 level crossings between Hsinchu and Zhuzhong Station.
