Wanhua-Banciao Project (Completed)
The Wanhua-Banciao Project was included in the Six-Year National Development Plan to promote urban development in the Wanhua and Banciao area. This underground railway project was aimed at integrating the cityscapes of Taipei City and Taipei County and alleviating traffic congestion. Furthermore, it has developed the Banciao Station special zone as a regional hub of the HSR, TRA, Taipei MRT and various bus services and as the political and economic center of Taipei County.
This project covered a 15.38- kilometer section between Taipei City's North Gate and the Shulin Coach Yard (including a 7.18-kilometer underground section). Work began in September 1992. In July 1999, TRA began underground operation. In April 2003, the tunnel constructed for HSR was completed and turned over to that agency. The whole project was completed by the end of 2004.
New Banciao Station：
Located on the block bounded by Wunhua Road, Hansheng East Road, Minciuan Road and Jhongshan Road, the new station is an important component of the Wanhua-Banciao Project. The design was completed in September 1994. The first phase of the project, the north tunnel construction, was finished on July 21, 1999. TRA trains started to run in it shortly thereafter. In April 2003, the second phase－the south tunnel construction (HSR tunnel)－was completed. The new station is a landmark in the heart of Banciao, a sub center of the Taipei metropolis. The station was co-constructed by Taipei MRT (Nangang-Banciao Line) and HSR, and it allows for easy access to city bus and inter-city bus services. Banciao Station has become a major hub for the part of the Taipei metropolis that is west of Danshuei River.
New Wanhua Station：
Situated at the intersection of Heping West Road and Siyuan Road, the site covers 41,000 square meters. Work began in October 1995 and was completed in July 1999. Besides connecting Kangding Road and Wanda Road, the project, together with the Taipei MRT's Nangang-Banciao Line, incorporates the businesses of the Longshan Temple and Guangjhou Street area into the Wanhua Station Special Zone. The special zone also includes the Wanhua District Administration Center. The station has thus become a gateway to west Taipei.
Shulin Coach Yard：
Between Shulin Station and Shanjia Station, the coach yard covers an area of 14.3 hectares. It is the service base for TRA's diesel multiple units (Yilan Line, North-Link Line and Eastern Line) and electric multiple units (Western Line).
