The Kaohsiung Project's Sankuaicuo Station Design Concept
The Kaohsiung Project  Following the Kaohsiung Metropolitan Area Underground Railway Project, 'Sankuaicuo Station', an old, long-forgotten railway station will make its elegant reappearance, becoming the only underground station in Kaohsiung with a cypress wood body. The building's warmth and the brim-full historical flavor of the station's main structure bring childhood memories back to mind.
  “The Sankuaicuo Station”, the predecessor of Kaohsiung Station, was originally set up in 1908 during Taiwan's period of Japanese colonial rule. After that, it became an important transportation site and is now Kaohsiung City's only remaining station built in the old Japanese-style of a cypress wood construction. Not only has it witnessed the development of Kaohsiung's railway over the past century, it is an important symbol of the development of the Sankuaicuo settlement. It witnessed the prosperity of Kaohsiung City, but as it was later gradually superseded by Kaohsiung Station, it finally ceased operations on September 26th, 1986. For Kaohsiung's older residents, the station still retains precious memories of a time gone by.
  To complement the Kaohsiung Metropolitan Area Underground Railway Project, Sankuaicuo's Station's new construction re-plans the design as a simple underground station in the two side platform style, with the entrance designed as a Japanese-style cypress wood structure, echoing the old Sankuaicuo Station historic monument. Demonstrating a nostalgic style, it has been designed in a low-ceilinged open style, with its simplicity hidden in the shade of greenery, in the image of a 'historical memory'.
  Design Conception:
The new Sankuaicuo Station area is close to the old Sankuaicuo Station and Sanfeng Central Street, and is the starting point for the cultural memory of Kaohsiung Railway. The railway corridor is designed as a central green axis for the community. The central green belt of this axis forms a simple and natural landscape of greenery.
  The laying of the ground floor also fully utilized the dry construction method, while the remainder of open space has been used as greenery. This allows the base to be able to conserve moisture and store infiltrated rainwater, and thus increase the soil's latent heat capacity to evaporate water, enabling enhancement of the surface micro-climatic adjustment functionality. The base design's water retention benchmarks meet the requirements of green building regulations. 
  After the railway has been electrified, the original railway corridor will be converted into a parkway connecting the east and west sides of the city, to provide more convenient transportation. Apart from driving the rejuvenation of Sankuaicuo's Sanfeng Central Street to recreate the thriving prosperity of the 'North Dihua Street - South Central Street' area, at the same time, because of the beautification of the surrounding landscape possible due to the railway line being converted to underground, as well as the revitalization and re-utilization of the Sankuaicuo historic monument station, what has long been the starting point of Kaohsiung Railway's cultural memory will once again be returned to Sankuaicuo.
