Railway Five Newly-Added Commuter Stations of Taichung Metropolitan Area Elevated Railway to Open for Use in October 2018
An additional five commuter stations (Lilin Station, Toujiacuo Station, Songzhu Station, Jingwu Station and Wuquan Station) of Taichung Metropolitan Area Elevated Railway Project are scheduled to come into use in October 2018.
The total length of the Taichung Metropolitan Area Elevated Railway Project is 21.7 kilometers. As soon as the first phase came into use in October 2016, the Railway Reconstruction Bureau’s Central Region Engineering Office immediately began implementing the project's second phase. This includes such constructions as drainage works and the simplified greening and beautification of the station structure's western end and the part under the bridge, as well as the demolition and filling-in of 17 level crossings, 18 underpasses and the Fuxing Land Bridge along the line. At present, the railway grade crossings have all been completely demolished. 10 underpasses have already been filled in and opened to traffic, and in June 2017 the Fuxing Land Bridge was also changed to a surface road. To enhance the desegregation benefits of the city, the Central Region Engineering Office is assisting Taichung City Government with the addition of eight cross roads under the elevated railway, completing the traffic network in urban Taichung.
For Phase 2 of the Taichung's railway elevation project, all the constructions are scheduled to be completed by October 2018 except that the Taichung Station Project retains historic remains situated under the original station to meet the requirements of Taichung City Cultural Heritage Council. The five commuter stations to come into use at that time will complement the original five stations and the goal of railway rapid transit systematization will be able to be realized. Furthermore, the western sides of the station structures of the five Phase 1 stations already in operation, the public artwork and the under-bridge landscaping work of each station will also be completed simultaneously. This will allow passengers to experience a more convenient travel environment and the improvement of the urban landscape.
