Comprehensive Planning and Second-Phase Environmental Assessment Operations Now Being Carried Out for Hualien-Taitung Railway's Full-Line Double Track Electrification Project
  The 'Hualien-Taitung Region Railway Double Track Electrification Project' is part of the Eastern region's Forward-looking track construction. The scope of the project ranges from Taiwan Railway's Hualien Station to Zhiben Station, and it will carry out double track electrification project in the approximately 112.65 km of existing single track railway line. This project's feasibility study was approved by the Executive Yuan on May 2nd, 2017. The Railway Reconstruction Bureau is now in the process of carrying out comprehensive planning and second-phase environmental impact assessment. A review meeting for the comprehensive planning period's mid-term report was convened on January 23rd, 2018.
  Also, in order to enable the railway grade separation engineering to integrate with urban development and land development, so as to give full play to the railway grade separation benefits, the 'Greater Hualien Metropolitan Area Elevated Railway Project' is being carried out by Hualien County Government. Currently, the scope of grade separation engineering still needs to evaluated in accordance with the needs and the vision of its urban development, and a feasibility study report will be completed and submitted to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications for subsequent review.
