Taipei Main Station Project (Completed)
Taipei Main Station ProjectThe Taipei metropolitan area has always been the political, cultural and commercial center of Taiwan. In light of the various railway lines, railway crossings and station facilities that cut through the city, causing traffic congestion and having an adverse impact on the city's appearance, TRUPO, with the approval of the Executive Yuan, implemented the Taipei Railway Underground Project (Taipei Main Station Underground Project). The NT$17.792 billion project put a 4.42-kilometer section of railway between Huashan and Wanhua (including the Taipei Main Station) underground. Work began in July 1983 and the stretch was completed and opened in September 1989. The project
eliminated 13 railway crossings and ushered in urban renewal around the Taipei Main Station.
