Chaojhou Project (Completed)
To improve rail transportation in the Pingtung area and build a more convenient commuter system between Kaohsiung and Chaojhou, the Executive Yuan approved the TRA Kaohsiung– Pingtung Chaojhou Rapid Transit Systematization in the Metropolitan Areas Project on December 15, 2003. The project will move the departure station for the TRA Western Line from Kaohsiung Station to Chaojhou Station and extend the electrified double track from Pingtung to Chaojhou. According to a project revision approved on May 21, 2006, all rail lines in Pingtung will be elevated under the plan.

The Chaojhou Project involves a 19.3-kilometer-long rail line from Pingtung Station to the Chaojhou Service Base. There are two major parts to the project, including the expansion of the 17-kilometer Pingtung-Chaojhou rail line into an electrified double track, and the construction of the 34.67-hectare Pingtung-Chaojhou Couch Yard, the southern vehicle base of the TRA’s Western Line. After completed, it will replace the existing Kaohsiung depot and vehicle inspection division. In addition to elevating the track, the project includes the construction of six new stations- Pingtung, Queilai, Linluo, Sishih, Zhutian, and Chaojhou. It also will eliminate 20 railway crossings. The project completed in January 2017.

Chaojhou Coach Yard:
To facilitate the Kaohsiung Railway Underground Project, it is a priority to move the depot and vehicle inspection division that is now east of Kaohsiung Station. The new service base, which has a total area of 34.67 hectares, is 1.9 kilometers south of Chaojhou Station. Upon completion, it will replace the existing Kaohsiung depot and vehicle inspection division to become the southern vehicle base of TRA's Western Line.
