Continued Improvements of Eastern Railways (Completed)
In coordination with the "Dongshan River Forest Park Project" and in order to speed up the general development and economic development of eastern Taiwan, on June 30, 2003, the Executive Yuan approved Continued Improvements of Eastern Railways. The project involves a 5.7-kilometer stretch of railway (the Yilan Line) between the area north of the Dongshan Station and the Wulaokeng River, including the construction of Dongshan Elevated Station, the Taiwan Plastic Branch Line, the Rebar Branch Line and the reconstruction of a section of railway within the Dongshan Forest Park. Work for this NT$2.779 billion project began in February 2004 and is due for completion by the end of 2008. Upon completion, the project will eliminate three railway crossings in the Dongshan Station area, relieve traffic bottlenecks in the city and promote the development of tourism in the region.
